Low fusibility is the most important tungsten property. This metal is often irreplaceable when dealing with high temperatures. Many technical problems can be solved by using wire and filament. Besides several operational properties, electronic devices and instruments also should have a small size. These products comply with such requirements well.
Metotechnics offers wolfram wire and filament. Our company offers a wide range of products. They can be ordered using a special form on the Cost page or by phone or via e-mail.
See the corresponding sections of the provided page for information about the properties of round and low-diameter W round products, their production, application and grades.
Grades
Wire and filament are made of WA, WRN, WL, WT, WM wolfram grades. These grades contain additives that improve the physical, mechanical and other properties. WA and WRN wolfram grades contain a silica alkaline and aluminium additive, WL grade - lanthanum oxide additive, WТ, WМ grades - thorium oxides.
The chemical composition of the described grades is regulated by GOST 19671-91, ТУ 48-19-309-79, ТУ 48-19-39-85 standards..
Production
Wolfram wire and filament are made by drawing 2.75 mm diameter rods. Due to wolfram properties the blanks should be hot-drawn. Under room temperature this material can not be pressurized due to its brittleness, but after heating tungsten becomes rather plastic. Tungsten filament is a small-sized wire (0.1 mm and less). It is made of wire. Although GOST 25501-82 standard that determines the semifinished product names does not define the filament, this term has a wide professional use.
Depending on the product grade and group it can undergo additional thermal processing (for example, annealing) and chemical processing (e.g., pickling).
Size, features, supply condition and other technological properties of tungsten wire and filament should comply with requirements of certain standards, among which are GOST 18903-73, ТУ 48-19-39-85, ТУ 48-19-309-79 etc.
Also these products are used for producing electrodes for high-temperature thermocouples. WR5/20 thermocouples are the most widely-used thermoelectric thermometers used for measuring high temperatures. They are made of wolfram-rhenium (5% or 20% of rhenium) alloys. Also sometimes wolfram-molybdenum thermocouples (WM) are used.
The described products are widely used in vacuum-tube and lighting equipment. Wolfram filament is a necessary component of bulbs. It is also used for making filaments for lamps and other light sources, helicoid and non-helicoid cathodes, warmers, meshes, springs of electronic devices and semi-conductor devices.
