It is a rather common semifinished product. Firstly, it is a stock for titanium wire. Secondly, it is a construction material used for producing various shafts, components of special equipment or even artificial joints. Titanium blanks have such important features such as high mechanical strength and low mass. So it can be used for making universal and industrially desired products products.

Grades


Products are made of VT1-0, VT1-00 commercial titanium and of VT3-1, VT5-1, VT6, VT8, VT9, VT14, VT20, VT22; ОТ4, ОТ4-0, ОТ4-1; PT-3V and other alloys. Aluminium (Al), manganese (Mn), stannum (Sn), vanadium (V), molybdenum (Mo) and other metals are used as addition agents. This allows improving the material properties significantly.

The chemical composition of titanium alloys is given in GOST 19807-91 and IS 1 90013-81 standards..

Production


Titanium rods and round bars are produced by such technological operations as hot rolling or forging. In case of forging the blank is additionally heated to 750-1000 °С. Forged and drawn rod are supplied without thermal processing.

The blanks of some grades are mechanically processed (polished) before supply.

Sizes, mechanical properties, state of supply of rolled titanium rod and round bar comply with GOST 26492-85, IS 1 90173-75 standards, of forged - with IS 1 90107-73, mechanically processed - IS 1 90201-75.

Round rods are often called “titanium round bars”. This is correct for semi-finished materials with a big diameter. E.g., titanium round bars with Ø 60 mm, 70 mm, 80 mm and higher. GOST 25501-82 does not contain a definition of a round bar for blanks and semi-finished materials, but in fact, this name is often used.

Titanium is usually applied in such spheres as aircraft and rocket engineering, ship building, chemical industry, medicine.

Titanium rod and round bar are used for producing shafts and construction elements for airplanes, helicopters and ships. In chemical industry they are used for producing elements that contact with hostile environments. In medicine the described products are used for making tools and artificial joints.
