Grades
The products are made of T tantalum. This grade includes tantalum (Ta) and niobium (Nb) as the main elements - 99.375% and 0,5% correspondingly so as admixtures such as iron (Fe) - 0.03%; titanium (Ti) - 0,01%; silicon (Si) - 0,005%; molybdenum (Mo) - 0,03%; tungsten (W) - 0,05%.

Production
Tantalum wire and filament are made by drawing. They are made of rods. Technological operations are made without heating the blanks. Before drawing semi-finished products are lubricated. This process is performed with low deformation speed, small reduction per pass and frequent process annealing.
Ready-made products are supplied in unnannealed form. The product diameter is 0.05-1.60 mm. Wire with Ø 0.3 mm and less is reeled in, wire of large diameter is wound into bundles.
Tantalum wire and filament properties (sizes, extreme tolerances, supply condition and other technological parameters) are regulated by TC 11-77 SU0.021.032 TC standard.
Application
The main tantalum wire application is producing components of vacuum-tube devices. They include grids and anodes of oscillator tubes, directly- and indirectly-heated cathodes, springs and other small-sized components. Tantalum application in this sphere is determined by its high melting temperature, gas-absorption ability and high emission ability.
Another important application of tantalum wire and filament is medicine. Ta does not affect human tissues so this allows using tantalum products in anaplastic and traumatic surgery.
