It is the basis for the production of compact rhenium and, accordingly, all other types of products: rhenium rods, flat bars, etc. In addition, complex shaped parts are made directly from this semi-finished product using powder metallurgy methods. The main application areas are metallurgy and science-intensive industries.
On the website of Metotechnics you can buy rhenium powder. Ordering via the site is available on the page with prices. You can also submit a request by email and phone.
More information about the grades, production methods and application areas of this product is presented on this page in the appropriate sections.
Grades
The product is made from high-purity rhenium (Re) which is assigned a grade or not, depending on the standard. Re-0, Re-1 indicate rhenium powder produced in accordance with technical conditions 48-4-195-87. The content of Re in them is very high and is not less than 99.99% and 99.97%, accordingly.The impurities are nickel (Ni), molybdenum (Mo), aluminum (Al), iron (Fe), potassium (K), copper (Cu) and other metals.
If rhenium powder is supplied according to technical conditions 48-19-92-88, the grade is not assigned to it. The mass fraction of Re is 99.88%, the most weighty impurity is oxygen (O). Its maximum value should not exceed 0.1%.
The chemical composition and marking of the considered products are presented in the standards technical conditions 48-4-195-87, technical conditions 48-19-92-88.
Production
Rhenium powder, as well as tantalum and niobium, is produced by the reduction method. The raw materials for the production of the powder are potassium and ammonium perrhenates. These are KReO4 and NH4ReO4. The point of the process is that the reducing agent reacts with a non-metallic component, and the metal is released in its pure form. Hydrogen (H) is used as a reducing agent.
Another important industrial method for obtaining the considered semi-finished product is electrolysis. In this process, the metal is released from the salt by an electric current passing through the liquid electrolyte. Its most common composition includes potassium perrhenate (KReO4) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4).
Particle sizes, bulk density, delivery status and other technological parameters of products are regulated by documents technical conditions 48-19-92-88, technical conditions 48-4-195-87.
Application
The main application areas of rhenium powder include:
production of compact rhenium;
alloying of steels and alloys.
In the first case, Re is made in the form of stacks of limited size, using the methods of powder metallurgy. In the second case, rhenium powder is added to alloys and steels to improve their properties. A detailed description of rhenium alloys is provided in the article “Overview of rhenium alloys".
