The considered products сombine the practically useful properties of rhenium, which include refractoriness and corrosion resistance, with small thicknesses of flat rolled products. This allows to use Re in electronic devices of small sizes and get the advantages of this metal even in the "microworld".

Grades

Products are made of molybdenum (Mo) alloy with rhenium (Re). It is labeled as MR-47, which indicates a mass fraction of Re of 42-47%. Mo, in turn, is contained in an amount of 53-58%. Impurities include iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), tin (Sn), sulfur (S), phosphorus (P), oxygen (O), and other components.

The chemical composition of molybdenum-rhenium alloy, from which products are made, is presented in the regulatory document technical conditions 48-19-271-85.

Production

The production of rhenium flat bars and foil is a multi-stage technological process that involves the deformation of workpieces by pressure and their heat treatment. To give the necessary plasticity to semi-finished products and eliminate the cast structure of the material, ingots obtained after vacuum melting of rhenium are subjected to cold deformation. This operation and further pressure treatments are performed without heating, because otherwise cracks may appear in the workpiece. Then the forging of intermediate semi-finished products is performed to reduce the thickness. The final stage is rolling to the specified product sizes. Annealing is performed after each iteration of pressure treatment. At the end of the process, the edges are cut.

The sizes of rhenium foil (in mm): thickness - 0.02-0.03; width - 20-40; length - from 120. Rhenium flat bars have a greater thickness and width compared to foil (in mm) - 0.1-3.0 and 25-180, accordingly. The minimum length is also 120 mm.

Semi-finished products are delivered in bundles.

Application

Rhenium foil and flat bar, which have small sizes, are used mainly in the electronics industry, where components are characterized exactly by small sizes. From specific use cases, such electro-vacuum devices can be distinguished as: cathode ray tubes, generator lamps.
