Rods are very widely-used industrial semi-finished products. They serve as a primary material for other blanks (e.g., wire) and ready-made products supplied to end users. Adding nickel to the blank attains special properties such as increased high temperature strength and heat resistance so as corrosion stability. So in general nickel allows creating a highly-demanded industrial product.
Metotechnics Company offers nickel rods. For purchasing them please call us, send a request via e-mail or make an order on the price-list page.
Nickel rod and round bar production, grades and application recommendations are given on this page in the corresponding sections.
Grades
These products are made of NP2 and NP3 semi-finished nickel so as of NK0,2 nickel silicide. Ni+Co is the main component of these grades; its share is 99.5%, 99.3% and 99.4% correspondingly. NK0,2 also contains a small amount of Si - 0.15-0.25%.
NP2, NP3, NK0,2 chemical composition of alloys is given in GOST 492-2006.
Production
Nickel rods and round bars are made by hot rolling or stretching. Stretched products can be soft (annealed) or hard (unannealed). For making soft semi-finished products they undergo thermal processing, that is annealing.
Stretched rods and round bars diameter 5-40 mm, round products with large diameter (42-90 mm) are made by hot rolling. These products may have a specified or random length. Hot-rolled nickel rods and round bars are 1.0-3.0 m long and have a diameter up to 60 mm; the diameter of products 0.7-1.4 m long exceeds 60 mm. Stretched semi-finished products have a 1.5-4.0 m size.
Sizes, mechanical properties, supply condition of these products are regulated by GOST 13083-77.
Round-section rods are often called round bars. This is right for semi-finished products with a rather large diameter. E.g., nickel round bars with Ø 50 mm, 60 mm, 80 mm and more. GOST 25501-82 does not contain a definition of “round bar” for blanks and semi-finished products, but this name for a round-section rod of large diameter is often used IRL.
Application
Nickel rods are widely used in industries with strict requirements towards corrosive stability of products. Such industries include vacuum-tube mechanical engineering and special mechanical engineering.
Rods made of nickel and alloys on its basis are used for producing alkaline batteries, as catalysts, as anti-corrosive electroplated coating, for making filtering devices, as special components of machines, tools, in rocket engineering and nuclear industry.
