The described semi-finished materials belong to flat products. Although anodes are used for applying coating only, they are still widely used as nickel provides high corrosive stability and protects processed surfaces from wear and prettifies them.

Grades
Nickel anodes are made of specialized NPA1, NPA2 and NPAN alloys. NP in the grade name means “semi-finished nickel”; А - anode; N - non-passivating. The above-listed materials contain at least 99.7%, 99.0% and 99.4% correspondingly. NPAN nickel is not subject to passivation - formation of thin oxide film on the metal surface that reduces Ni ion concentration due to high resistance.
The chemical composition of the described alloys is regulated by GOST 492-2006.
Production
Anodes are standard nickel sheets. They are produced by hot rolling. Blanks are processed on mills. The technological operation can be performed several times depending on the final sheet thickness: the thinner nickel anode is needed, the more rolling cycles are required. The blanks are heated.
After making the semi-finished products of required thickness some additional technological operations can be performed. They usually include chemical, thermal and mechanical processing. Thus, nickel anodes made of NPAN alloys are quenched. Edge trimming is performed for all products and they are supplied with a non-pickled surface.
Nickel anode thickness is 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 mm; they can be 100-600 mm and 400-2000 mm long.
Mechanical properties, supply condition, product sizes should comply with GOST 2132-90.
Application
Its main use is application of Ni coating. This process is called “nickel-plating”. The nickel anode is the source of Ni particles that pass through the electrolyte being exposed to the current and settle on the surface of the coated product in a thin layer. This is called “electroplating”. Also electroless nickel is applied (see article Nickel-plating. Use of nickel anodes and cathodes for coating application.
