These are small-diameter round products (compared to round bars and rods), which are very common in solving various industrial problems. The main advantage of stainless steel is its good corrosion resistance in some aggressive environments. The described semi-finished products are used in cases where a combination of small size and protection of the material from the effects of its environment is required.

Grades
Blanks are made from corrosion-resistant steel of the grades 12H13, 20H13, 30H13, 08H18N10, 12H18N10T, 10H17N13M2T and other high-alloy steels.
All of these materials are based on iron (Fe), carbon (C) and chromium (Cr). Some steels contain alloying elements, such as tungsten (W), molybdenum (Mo) which improve their properties. The amount of a particular component depends on the grade.
The chemical composition of these corrosion-resistant steels is given in GOST 5632-72.
Production
Stainless filament and wire are produced on special machines using the technological operation of broaching, which is carried out without heating the workpieces. The initial semi-finished products are rods. Stainless wire and filament are supplied in heat-treated condition (soft).
The sizes, delivery status, and mechanical properties of the specified products of this type are regulated by GOST 18143-72.
It is worth noting that the wire made of corrosion-resistant steels, which has small diameter values (usually less than 0.1 mm), is usually called stainless filament. GOST 25501-82 does not contain such a definition for blanks and semi-finished products, but in practice it is often used.
Application
Stainless wire and filament are used where the material requires corrosion resistance in aggressive environments. Among the industries are power engineering, shipbuilding, construction, medical and food industries.
