It is one of the most common types of round rolled products produced by the industry. Steel has a fairly good weldability, which allows you to use semi-finished products from it in welded structures. At the same time, the corrosion resistance provides protection from aggressive environments. This combination of properties combined with the lower cost of stainless steels compared to nickel-based alloys makes stainless round bars and rods very popular in solving industrial applications.
In the company Metotechnics you can buy stainless steel rods and round bars. To do this, just call, send a request by email or make an order via the website on the Cost page.
A detailed description of the production methods of these products, their grades and recommendations for use are provided on this page in the appropriate sections.
Grades
Products are made from corrosion-resistant steels 20H13, 95H18, 40H10H2M, 12H18N10T, 08H18N12B, 10H17N13M2T (EI448), 11H11N2V2MF (EI962) and other brands.
Each alloy must contain carbon (C), iron (Fe), which forms the base, and chromium (Cr) - the main alloying element. It often includes nickel (Ni), which improves corrosion resistance, and the refractory metals tungsten (W) and molybdenum (Mo), which increase the operating temperatures of steels and their hardness.
The chemical composition of these alloys is given in GOST 5632-72.
Production
Stainless steel rods and round bars are made of round or square cross-section using technological operations of hot rolling or forging. They can be delivered heat-treated or untreated. In some cases, surface etching is provided.
The diameter of semi-finished products of round cross-section or the side of the square of blanks of square cross-section should not exceed 200 mm.
The sizes of stainless round bars and rods, the maximum deviations for them are regulated by a number of standards for rolled steel; mechanical properties and delivery status - by standard GOST 5949-75.
Very often the workpiece of a circular cross-section is called a stainless steel round bar. This is true for semi-finished products of a sufficiently large diameter. For example, stainless round bars with Ø 50 mm, 70 mm, 90 mm or more. GOST 25501-82 does not contain the definition of a round bar for blanks and semi-finished products, but in practice this name is often used for a rod of round section with a large diameter.
Application
Corrosion-resistant rods and round bars are widely used in industries where there are increased requirements for the resistance of products in aggressive environments. These areas include power engineering, construction, and shipbuilding. Specific applications of stainless steel rods and round bars include the production of fasteners and welded turbine products in power engineering; welded structures in construction; rudders, brackets, ship shafts operating in seawater, in shipbuilding.
