Semi-finished products of rectangular section, which are usually related to flat rolled products, are among the most popular in many industries. Monel sheet and flat bar are no exception. When it is necessary to provide reliable protection against chemical corrosion caused by aggressive substances, these materials are excellent for this task. Monel metal is stable in fresh and sea water, hydrofluoric and sulfuric acids, and in various alkalis.

To buy monel sheet and flat bar in Metotechnics, just contact us using one of the convenient ways - email, phone, website. We will answer questions related to the product and help you choose the necessary items.

You can learn the product characteristics (grades, delivery status, standard sizes, etc.) on this page.

Grades

Sheets and flat bars are made of Monel 400, R-405, K-500, and NiCuFeMn 28-2,5-1,5 alloys.

Monel 400 has the following chemical composition: copper (Cu) - 28.0-34.0%, ferrum (Fe) - 1.0-2.5%, manganese (Mn) - max 2.0%, nickel (Ni) - min 63%. NiCuFeMn 28-2,5-1,5 consists of the following components: nickel + cobalt (Ni + Co) - at least 65.8%, cuprum (Cu) - 27-29%, ferrum (Fe) - 2-3%, manganese (Mn) - 1.2-1.8%.

The chemical composition of Monel 400 is regulated by the standards of the company Special Metals Corporation (USA), which owns the rights to the MONEL trademark; NiCuFeMn 28-2,5-1, 5 is regulated by GOST 492-2006.

Production

Monel flat bars and sheets are produced by rolling. They can be hot-rolled or cold-rolled. As a rule, the last one have a smaller thickness due to the greater number of passes through the rolling mill.

During hot rolling, the workpieces are subjected to heating. Depending on the final size of semi-finished product, rolling can be carried out in several passes. After it, a number of technological operations are performed aimed at cleaning the surface of the workpieces from chemical byproducts, giving them the necessary technological and mechanical properties and the required values of length and width. These operations include heat treatment, correction, mechanical and chemical finishing (processing), edge trimming, and cutting.

Cold-rolled monel flat bars and sheets are produced in a similar way as hot-rolled, including cold rolling, which is carried out without additional heating of the workpieces.

Monel flat bar is a sheet that has a limited width. As a rule, semi-finished products of this type have the ratio of length to width at least 5.

The sizes of the described products from Monel 400 alloy, the delivery status and mechanical properties are regulated by the standards of Special Metals Corporation (USA), which holds the rights to the MONEL trademark.

Application

Monel sheets and flat bars are used as construction materials in shipbuilding and other industries dealing with chemicals. These semi-finished products are used for production marine and river vessel hulls, pump parts, and heat exchangers parts. This metal has a high corrosion resistance in sea and fresh water.
