Molybdenum billets serve as primary blanks for producing standard molybdenum semifinished products. All round stock and flat products are made of this blank by pressurizing (forging, rolling etc.). Production of special steel and alloys is another important application as molybdenum billet is used as burden materials for melting materials. The two described applications make this product very important and highly-demanded in industrial production.
Molybdenum billets can be purchased on Metotechnics website. Also the products can be ordered by phone or via e-mail.
Technical properties of semifinished products and other useful information are given in the corresponding sections on this page. Also product standards serve as useful source of information; they can be found on the website.
Grades
Billets are made of MSh-1, MSh-2, MSh-V (metallurgical molybdenum) and MSh-1, MSh-2 (high-purity molybdenum) grades.
All given materials have a very high molybdenum content; they contain tenths of percent of admixtures:
99,55% - MSh-1;
99,62% - MSh-V;
99,77% - MShCh-1, MShCh-2;
99,80% - MSh-2.
The chemical composition of the above-given grades is regulated by standards TC 48-19-73-86 and TC 48-19-69-80.
Production
Billet production is made in several stages:
powder compaction;
pre-baking;
baking.
This is made for making square blanks. The section and length depend on the application.
Molybdenum billets should comply with requirements of GOSTs and TC, in particular, TC 48-19-69-80, TC 48-19-73-86 etc.
Application
Molybdenum billet is a blank for making semifinished products (e.g., molybdenum sheets or rods).
Molybdenum is a very widely-used alloying agent for producing steel and cast iron so as heatproof and acid-resistive alloys. When these materials are molten, molybdenum billets are added to the liquid-alloys for improving their properties.
