Heat screens, aircraft construction elements and other elements that require high-temperature resistance and high mechanical strength are produced of the described semifinished products. Sheet are used for producing large-size products, molybdenum flat bar is used for medium- and small-sized products. Also the latter is used as a blank for making foil.

Grades
Products are made of molybdenum of MCh and TsM2A grades so as of other molybdenum-alloys. TsM2A contains zirconium and titanium additives that makes it more heatproof than MCh pure molybdenum. The content of molybdenum is not less than 99.96% and 99.55% correspondingly.
TC 48-19-273-91, TC 48-19-472-90, GOST 17431-72 standards describe the chemical composition of these materials.
Production
Square billets serve as the primary blanks for making molybdenum semifinished products. Depending on the size of the end products, their size is usually 25х25 mm, 12.5х12.5 mm or 8х8 mm. Firstly the blanks undergo flat forging with a air hammer and than they are subject to hot and cold rolling on mills. The stated technological operations (except cold rolling) are performed together with heating the primary material. Hot rolling are used for making molybdenum sheets up to 0.35 mm thick. For making products of less thickness cold rolling is made additionally.
Molybdenum flat bars have a limited width so they are made by cutting the sheets. As a rule, their proportion of length to width are less than 5.
Product mechanical properties, supply condition and size should comply with the requirements of several GOSTs and TC such as GOST 17431-72, TC 48-19-472-90, TC 48-19-273-91 etc.
Application
Due to good high temperature strength molybdenum sheets and flat bars so as other products made of this refractory metal are applied under extremely high temperatures. They are used for making different construction elements in aircraft and rocket engineering: heat screens, fuselage skin elements and other parts of rockets and airplanes that should be durable under high temperatures.
