Application of wear-resistant coatings is one of the main application areas of the cobalt metal. Semi-finished products in the form of plates are well suited for it. As a rule, only those surfaces are protected that are directly susceptible to wear. Accordingly, for such purposes, large sheets are not required, and plates, which also belong to the type of flat rolled products, perfectly serve as a source of protective material. They are convenient to use as electrodes when applying coatings using electrolysis, as well as in the form of panels.
In Metotechnics you can buy Cobalt sheets and plates. For order that can be made in different ways (phone, fax, email, website), K0 grades and others are available.
You can learn more about the material, production methods and application areas of these products on this page in the appropriate sections.
Grades
Semi-finished products are made from the K0 grade. The content of cobalt (Co) in it is at least 99.98%, which is a very high level and indicates a high chemical purity of the metal. The most weighty impurities are ferrum (Fe) - no more than 0.003%, nickel (Ni) - no more than 0.005% and carbon (C) - no more than 0.005%.
The chemical composition of the K0 grade is regulated by the GOST 123-2008.
Production
Cobalt plates are obtained from the whole cathode sheets by cutting. The minimum size is 20x20 mm, the maximum is 550x550 mm. The edges of the cobalt plates must be cut from four sides.
Cathode sheets from cobalt are produced by electrolysis. Pure metal is released at the cathode, which determines the name of the product. This production method gives very high content of the main chemical element (in this case, Co) in the material. For example, we can take the primary Nickel N-0, which is also obtained by electrolysis, and which also contains 99.9% of the main element Ni.
The sizes, delivery status of Cobalt sheets and plates should match the GOST 123-2008.
Application
Cobalt plate is used for applying wear-resistant coatings to various parts and units that are susceptible to water-abrasive wear, friction, high dynamic loads, and high temperatures. In some cases, these coatings are applied galvanically during the electrolysis process. The source of Co in this process is the plate, which is the anode and dissolves over time. Cobalt ions settle on the parts and form a coating.
K0 grade from which these semi-finished products are produced has a high purity (99.98% Co). In the production of precision alloys that include Сobalt, products of grade K0 are used as a charge in the smelting process.
Cobalt sheet can be considered a blank for making plates, which is its main use.
