Fecral is used for making electric furnace heaters with the highest working temperatures among materials that do not contain refractory metals such as tungsten, molybdenum, niobium etc. Due to absence of nickel the products are much cheaper than nichrome. These two peculiarities make the described high-resistance precision alloy rather attractive. Such common semifinished materials as fecral wire and filament that belong to round stock fully satisfy the industrial demand in blanks for round heaters.
It is rather easy to buy fecral wire. Metotechnics offers a wide size range of products that can be ordered on the price page, via e-mail or phone.
See the corresponding sections for fecral product features, their production, application and grades.
Grades
These products are made of fecral (aka FeCrAl alloy or iron-chromium-aluminium alloy) - a high-resistance material. CrAl 23 5 (FeCrAl 135 or Kanthal® APM) and CrAl 27 7 (or FeCrAl H) grades. Also semifinished materials can be made of Aluchrom W and KH23U5.
Fecral is a iron-chromium-aluminium alloy. Its main elements are iron (Fe), chrome (Cr) and aluminium (Al). CrAl 23 5 contains 22.0-24.0% of chrome (Cr), 5.0-5.8% of aluminium (Al) and the rest is iron (Fe); CrAl 27 7 contains 26.0-28.0% of chrome (Cr), 5.0-5.8% of aluminium (Al) and the rest is iron (Fe).
The chemical composition of CrAl 23 5, CrAl 27 7, Aluchrom W and Х23Ю5 is regulated by GOST 10994-74.
Production
Fecral wire is made by pressurized stretching. It is performed without additional heating of blanks, so the semifinished material is cold-drawn.
Several additional actions are performed after the main technological operation. For making the fecral wire soft it is annealed. In some cases the surface is pickled for cleaning it from dirt (e.g., grease).
Product sizes, mechanical properties, supply condition, resistance and maximum working temperatures are regulated by GOST 12766.1-90 и GOST 8803-89.
It should be mentioned that wire with low diameters (less 0.5 mm) is called fecral filament.

Application
The group of the material determines its application. Fecral is a high-resistance precision alloy. This semifinished material is mainly used for making round heaters for electric furnaces. Fecral filament is used in low-power furnaces and fecral - in more powerful ones. Depending on the diameter and grade of fecral, heaters made of this material have different maximum working temperatures. CrAl 23 5 is the most fire-resistant alloy, a heater made of it with diameter 6+ mm can work with maximum temperature 1400 °C
Another application is production of resistive elements for electrical equipment.
