Strip and foil belong to flat products, but still they can be used for making flat electric heaters. Low thickness of blanks allows bending the heater and placing it in the chamber efficiently. The described semifinished materials can be used for small low-power furnaces. It should be also mentioned that strip is used for making foil.

Grades


Foil and strip are made of Aluchrom W, Х23Ю5, CrAl 23 5 (FeCrAl 135, Kanthal® APM) and CrAl 27 7 (FeCrAl H) grades. Their main components are iron (Fe), chrome (Cr) and aluminium (Al). Nickel (Ni) is not added. On one hand, this makes fecral products much cheaper, and on the other hand, nickel makes the alloy more resistant to corrosion and improves its mechanical properties.

Chemical composition of CrAl 23 5, CrAl 27 7, Aluchrom W and Х23Ю5 is regulated by GOST 10994-74.

Production

Fecral strip and foil are made by rolling. The blanks are not heated, so the semifinished materials are cold-drawn.

Depending on the thickness the products can be soft or hard. Fecral strip 0.2+ mm thick undergoes heat treatment (annealing) and gets soft; strips thinner than 0.2 mm are made of hard blanks. Sometimes the surface is pickled for cleaning from contaminants that result from the rolling process.

It should be mentioned that fecral foil is a strip with low thickness (0.3 mm and less).

Product size, mechanical properties, supply condition, resistance and maximum working temperatures are regulated by GOST 12766.2-90.

Application

These products are mainly used for producing flat heaters. Such heaters are usually used in industrial electric furnaces, electric heaters with maximum working temperature that does not exceed 1400 °С.

Another application of the fecral strip are producing resistive elements (resistors) for regulating the current load. They are installed into different electric devices: starter rheostats, start-regulating units of hoisting cranes etc. Such resistors are used in the electric circuits of electric multiple unit braking systems and in increment starters of electric motors.
