These semi-finished products are one of the most common ones in industry. Combined with useful zirconium properties, they are applied in very important spheres. High-tech nodes of nuclear reactors were designed with Zr rods. At the same time, besides application in equipment, universal materials serve as primary blanks for making round products of small diameter.

For buying zirconium rods and round bars at Metotechnics Company please contact us as convenient for you - via e-mail, website or by phone. We will answer all your product-related questions and help you with choosing the required items.

The detailed description of methods of manufacturing the above-mentioned products, grades and application recommendations are given in corresponding sections on this page.

Grades

The products are made of zirconium-niobium (Nb)(E125, Э635) and hafnium (Hf)(ZrHf-20) alloys so as iodide Zr.

E125 and Э635 alloys contain 2.40-2.70% and 0.90-1.10% of Nb correspondingly. ZrHf-20 contains 18-22% of Hf. Iodide zirconium is a pure metal.

Admixtures usually include oxygen (O), nitrogen (N), carbon (C), lead (Pb) nickel (Ni), molybdenum (Mo), titanium (Ti)

The chemical composition of ZrHf-20 is described in TC-48-4-503-88 standard, chemical composition of E125 - in TC 95.166-83, chemical composition of iodide zirconium - in TC 95.46-82.

Production

Zirconium rods and round bars are made by blank pressurizing or casting. Ingots of zirconium alloys or pure metal serve as primary raw materials. Various technological processes are used for deforming them. They include hot compaction, cold rolling, cold forging.

The products are supplied without any additional thermal or mechanical processing.

Rod sizes (diameter and length) have a wide range. Thus, their Ø can be from 4.5 to 81 mm and length - up to 7400 mm.

Zirconium rods and round bars shall comply with the requirements of TC 48-4-503-88, TC 95.46-82, TC 95.166-83 and some other specialized standards that contain product sizes and their tolerances, mechanical properties, supply condition, marking, packing, and other important values.

Round rods are often called “zirconium round bars”. This is right for products of big diameter. GOST 25501-82 does not contain the definition of round bar for blanks and semi-finished products, but practically this name is often used for round rods of big diameter.

Application

Science-driven industries serve as the main consumers of the considered products. They include nuclear power and superconductor production. Due to very low section of neutron absorption and ability to work in hostile environments and under high temperatures, rods serve as one of the main blanks for producing different components of the nuclear reactor core. Also rods made of zirconium-niobium alloys are used in superconductors as conducting cores.

Prices

Availability and cost of zirconium rods and round bars are given on Prices page. Also the above-given products can be ordered on the website.
